Southern kailash

The vellingiri hills in the Nilgiri biosphere reserve is called the Southern kailash. The hills is located about 45 kms from the Coimbatore city. And is about 2 kms distance from the dhyana linga ( adhi yogi statue) of Isha.

The hills has a great ancient treasurable history of Lord Shiva. The hills is called Sapthagiri means SEVEN HILLS and at the end the god ober the top hill Lord Shiva is a “suyambu ” meaning he originated on his own. This place the god is found gracing his devotees in the form of panchalingas.

The hills has an extreme greenery and medicinal plants and vegetations all around. And has several plantations of medicinal values.

Trekking path

The temple is called the THENKAILASH for the reason this is similar to the kailash trek in the north. People always want to visit kailash once in lifetime. But it is not possible for everyone to make it. Thus this THENKAILASH trek has become more common among the devotees.

The trek to the temple is open only during the month of feb to may of every year. Only men are allowed and the women from age 10-50 are not permitted for the trekiing. The mountain is a steep slope which brings everyone’s heartbeat to the highest. And as the hills count, the path is very narrow to walk. Each hills has seperate speciality where the pathways of the hills can be found with the powder of “thiruneeru” everywhere. Likewise each hills has its own speciality.

The base of the trek starts fr the down hill temple,where peole pray and start their journey to the seventh hill top. The only way to reach the temple is through foot path and no other means.

The forest officers make a check before the spiritual trekking, for the plastics and other measures. The steps are also taken for providing shelters and washrooms in the mid of the trek area for the devotees.

The most adventurous spritual trek one can say.
